This morning the 48-year-old Corran relief ferry Maid of Glencoul broke down. As quoted on the Lochaline Facebook page this afternoon, the news from Highland Council is now:
The relief vessel, the Maid of Glencoul broke down first thing this morning. It appears to be a serious drive train issue. Unfortunately it is highly likely there will be no service for several weeks. At present it looks like she will have to be towed to dry dock for repairs. If that is the case, it could be that the main vessel, the MV Corran, is back first.
MV Corran has been out of service since last year, and was expected back into service this month. A firm date is not known.
If travelling via Lochaline to anywhere further afield than Morvern or Ardnamurchan, the journey will now be extended by 43 miles around Loch Eil.
